I Pledge AllegianceA Poem by Pete"If a plant cannot live according to its nature, it dies; and so a man." - ThoreauIncorrigible customers congregated at the coffee shop. Buzzing in a wired cacophony of caffeine like bees in a honeycomb. Waitresses reluctantly jawed with them as they pirouetted and bowed, bearing a belligerent brew for tips and scurried quickly away, walking like Egyptians. Men in blue and grey gabardine gorged themselves on the last remnants of doughy confections, washing them down with gallons of gall like toddlers with sippy-cups. Their maniacal, metallic manacles and miniscule manhood shone with the lackadaisical lament of the long arm of the law. Outside, traffic snickered and snarled in graphic gridlock.
