I love the way this poem doesn’t present any answers or anaylsis, as your poems usually do. Instead, we are led thru some tangled pondering about whether it’s better to be the one to NOT find a seat (typically thought of as the odd man out)??? It wasn’t until just now (reading your poem) that I realized how lucky I’ve been that I never fit in & thus I sought my own journey in the wilderness (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

i love your thoughts on this. reminds me of 'The Road Not Taken' by Robert Frost -

I've always liked Thoreau, but the way you quote him often, I've gotten a clearer picture of what he was all about! One of these days I should write about my experience growing up kinda Thoreau-like without even knowing about him!

Yeah, I agree, at least at a cake walk you get a cake. What do you get with musical chairs? Its kind of a creepy game anyway, filled with angst and probably invisible clowns. Loved this!!
