Where's My Chair?

Where's My Chair?

A Poem by Pete

“I had three chairs in my house; one for solitude, two for friendship, three for society.” - Thoreau

Sometimes life feels like a game of musical chairs.
Bless the people who don't find one.
Where are they supposed to go?
What does the winner really get but ...
... a reserved seat in Hell ...

I love the way this poem doesn’t present any answers or anaylsis, as your poems usually do. Instead, we are led thru some tangled pondering about whether it’s better to be the one to NOT find a seat (typically thought of as the odd man out)??? It wasn’t until just now (reading your poem) that I realized how lucky I’ve been that I never fit in & thus I sought my own journey in the wilderness (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

We humans are a strange lot. Always striving to fit in, and shout out our individuality at the same time. This is a well crafted piece. I like its open question.

Yeah, I agree, at least at a cake walk you get a cake. What do you get with musical chairs? Its kind of a creepy game anyway, filled with angst and probably invisible clowns. Loved this!!
