Criss Cross

Criss Cross

A Poem by Pete
"

"We are always paid for our suspicion by finding what we suspect." - Thoreau

"

Eternity manifests in days.
Doors swing both ways.
From the clifftop.
To the valley of the shadow.
Into the wilderness.
Deep in a dark forest.
Down by the sullen, swollen sea.
Wandering the desert.
Stung by the serpent.
More than I can bear.

Baptized in a bonfire of vanities.
Girding up my loins.
Cloaked in darkness.
Tormented by truth.
No need to ask for whom the bell tolls.
I'm the one ringing it.
Over the river and through the woods.
No maybes or shoulds.
Upon my knees, I kiss your ring.
Give you everything.
My God, it's ...
... heavy ...

Many times, your pieces are chock-full of word-crafting & word-play with sounds & alliteration, etc. This one seems a little less "worked over" (I can say it this way becuz I'm guilty of it, too). I've been trying to relax my word-crafting . . . & to me, this piece of yours seems more relaxed, too. It seems like I'm paying more attention to your message than your stunning cleverness & this causes me to be more introspective as I try to process what you're saying here. I very much love your highly-worked-over pieces, too, so I'm not expressing a preference, just observations (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
