"Others -- as most legislators, politicians, lawyers, ministers, and office-holders -- serve the state chiefly with their heads; and, as they rarely make any moral distinctions, they are as likely to serve the devil, without intending it, as God. A very few -- as heroes, patriots, martyrs, reformers in the great sense, and men -- serve the state with their consciences also, and so necessarily resist it for the most part ..." - Thoreau

When outside looking in, it's hard to determine your mind's true intent. We can always say what could have been said, truth of the matter is, you have to be in that shoe to respond on the subject at hand at that exact moment. thanks for sharing the lovely lines.

I'm a believer myself, but I think it's more important to have strong moral values that you believe in than to blindly follow Biblical rules if you don't agree with them. Have faith in what you think is best, and life has a way of working itself out.

great thoughts. you are very wise. thank you Hannah!
It is a wonderful thing to remain in question about everything, that way you never stop learning and developing on a conscious level. Jesus was an incredible guru and spiritual leader of his time no doubt about that! What I have a problem with is, 300 years later other people concocted stories in the bible to control the people. Jesus would be aghast at the Vatican riches and cover up stories to protect their priests from all the horrors they have inflicted on innocent children... How does Jesus view this?
Your words are pure and soul searching. Thank you for sharing.

Nonsense, Pete of course you would serve and with honor there is nothing else. The things that you would give your very life for are the only things that give us life.
Isiah 43:2
When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.
Thank you Pete

Maybe you would have broken bread with him and prayed before diner, while holding his hand. I believe that's what you would have done. Have faith. That's what he would of told you, in person.
Enjoyed your poem. Thanks for sharing.

I love reading, writing, music, nature, God and feeling emotion, not necessarily in that order. To me, these things go hand in hand. My favorite writer is Henry David Thoreau. I think he was a geni.. more..
