Drawing the Line

Drawing the Line

A Poem by Pete

Image result for line in the sand

A baby is born.
An old man dies.
They both cry.
Rejoicing and mourning.
Amidst the spurious in-betweens.
Truth.
Lies.
Crosses and cravings.
Joy and sadness.
Sickness and health.
Faith and fear.
Fantastical forked tongues.

Dancing and swaying to a twisted song.
Dwelling on the fringe.
Hamsters running on wheels.
Treadmills that never stop.
Kneeling confessions and laughing at the moon.
Letting go of the rope on the tire swing over the murky water.
Curtain calls and changing channels.
Strangers smiling while clutching knives behind their backs.
A true friend is gold.
We finally let down our guards.
Greeting the demons that visit in the dark.

Time is of the essence.
Everything is funny and nothing is humorous.
Enough was enough a long time ago.
You can't run from yourself.
Love trumps everything in the sly game.
In the end, it is all there is.
All that matters.
Empty pockets can't weigh you down.
You can have nothing and everything.
The tide threatens nearby and my hands tremble as I ...
... draw the line ...

If only everyone drew such a line - keeping themselves as a decent human being - then we might have avoided so much bloodshed and not be in the predicament we face today.

Friends may be gold but this...this is gold Pete,
"Letting go of the rope on the tire swing over the murky water."

Such a mindful piece of writing.

Great imagery - the duality of life poetically portrayed. There are two sides to a coin; face and obverse - sometimes (rarely) you can roll the coin on it's edge - a rest bit - but it soon falls on one side or the other! :-)

thanks Phill. couldn't have explained it better myself. appreciate you stopping by.
Pete, a very real sense of who you are keeps on centered. We draw lines everyday or madness would take the place of boundaries. From the cradle to the grave we are alone we set the tone. Very well done thank you for sharing.
