And the Grass Turns Brown

And the Grass Turns Brown

A Poem by Pete

Time passes away.
Day becomes night.
Drags me away like a waning light.
I pass back and forth through the portal so many times,
I don't know which side I'm on anymore.
It hammers me.
Taking its toll.
Weakened by each spin of the globe.
Wearying woe takes hold.
Extracting a little bit more soul each time.

I want to feel.
Something.
Anything.
I become a recalcitrant, reticent recluse.
Hard and callous.
Anesthetized.
My smile drained in a stoic stalemate.
His bony finger beckons.
His scythe cuts me down ...
... and the grass turns brown ...

Such a sadness here.. yet so finely laid in elegant phrasing.. in fact a somehow controlled path of thought, not as haphazard as perhaps you believe.. or need to, maybe. Your words spiral then lay waiting for the kiss of reason.

'I want to feel. Something. Anything.'

There comes a time surely smiles have to make their own move, else time will take away the morning when you wake and see the brown turn to green as green.. covered with yellow daisies. There has to be daisies, you just need to want them..

I always call this kind of mood.. a beautiful sadness..

I'm curious to know how you were inspired to write this, Pete. There's a presence about it I find quite chilling...like the scythe that cuts you down.

yeah a downer, a dark one for a dark mood i was in Andrew. thanks for stopping by.
Powerful description of this state we go through. To become a recluse feels like a stalemate of hopeful ideas and outcomes. It is draining indeed...An excellent one, Pete...:)................
