The Valley of Beracah

The Valley of Beracah

The Valley of Blessings.

The Valley of Beracah near Tekoah. Photo by Ferrell Jenkins.

Treasure lost.
Flesh afflicted.
Heartbreak endured.
Betrayed and abandoned.
Treading in the valley where dread overshadows.

Calamity came and I cried out to you in distress.
You heard me and answered that you were with me.
You walked every step with me through the lows.
You said that, "whoever loses their life for my sake will find it."
Even Thoreau said that, "Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves."

I am Daniel in the lions den.
I am Jonah in the belly of the great fish.
I am Balaam riding on a donkey.
I am one of the three tossed into the fiery furnace but when the king looks he sees four and one looks like "a son of the gods".
I am Peter walking on the water and reaching out for your hand.
Seas are parted.
Walls are torn down.
Enemies are destroyed.
The hungry are fed.
Water becomes wine.
Healing and anointing.
Signs, wonders and mighty works.

Whistling past the graveyard and humming through Hell.
Trusting, in the end, that everything will be well.
Leaning on your word like a man with a cane.
Faith in love to erase all the pain.
Floating in solitary like the last snow flurry.
With you at my side, I have no need to worry.

Standing in the ring of fire and coming full circle.
You grant me the spoils of my enemies.
I possess what only you can give me.
I am yours and you are mine.
You delivered me in the valley ...
... the valley of Beracah ...

Pete,
Within our lives we push forward as best we can. It is a mystery as the path unfolds.
Your words of process within this mystery which is life are only unknown to us.
God knows the beginning from the ending and is not in the dark at all.
Bible help and hope drawn from. I found it encouraging and refreshing.
Beautifully done poem the end. Good job!
Blessings,
Kathy

thoughtful comment well appreciated! :)
Hi Pete, I wasnt able to view the image until I right clicked the space where the image should be - the valley in the image is awesome.

I liked the whole feel of this. It has innate strength and it's clearly a faith-driven piece leaving the reader as to no doubt where your heart (and pen) lie. A true testament of life-changing potential of faith.

One line - 'donkeys speak' seems to tear the spiritual fabric of this for me.I know its probably from a Bible story but it reduces the impact of the whole.
Splendid work Pete.
