MY WARA Poem by JA slam-styled poem about rumors, having to stay silent, and loving someone too much. Messy as all hell and probably too personal.Divergent perceptions and possible misconceptions Cloud my mind. The all-too-familiar scent Was it upon your breath? Even I couldn't recognize it. Even if it was, I'd have probable cause to care for you more. To comfort, to defend, to protect. Forget expectation! Living in a nation where men cannot process their emotions! Forget masculinity! Bravado at the cost of your sanity! Forget tradition! Because you are worth more than an exhausted cassette tape worn from overplaying. I'd let you drown me in tears Because I'd be damned if I let you overflow. Perhaps this is a remnant of my past Overlaying trauma upon reality, thinking it could fit into place like the wrong puzzle piece. You're not the sum of your achievements or failures. You are a human being with value that makes diamonds seem worthless; Multiplied by how many times you've broken your own heart to heal another's. Forgive this wretch with a hero complex But I love you and I'll come out swinging. I'll scream until my voice runs out. Fingers bloody and bruised from abusing this wall of “I'm fine"s and “Don't worry”s It's NOT FINE and I WORRY near constantly! I beg of you, forgive me. © 2019 J |
