The Arbitrary Choice

The Arbitrary Choice

A Poem by Prophet In The Making
"

Another piece from the abandoned random word poems project. Inspired by a fellow poet, friend, and brother, Malik.

"

Food for thought:

How was the first genius declared a genius?

Was it because he, she, or it could count better

than the rest of the world?

Or was it because they could use bigger words?

Whatever the case, I’m sure life for that being was swell

from then on. Until their seemingly amazing gift

became too much of a burden,

the kind that weighs you down,

the kind that causes your bones to break,

the kind that causes others to send your

beautiful mind into a never ending chaotic spiral

of depression that you can’t recover from.

Food for thought:

How was the America we know today really founded?

Was it by some happy go lucky sailor in 1492, who

just wanted to have fun?

Or was it by some content, well paid mariner

in the name of divine conquest?

Whatever the case, I’m sure that man was as bashful

as can be upon realizing his newfound ability:

to conjure up an illusion of security for the natives,

while secretively penetrating the fertile soil

in order to get a quick nod of approval from his

so highly respected overlords…

Food for thought:

Why do we follow a dream, a passion?

Is it because it is inherent and natural?

Or is it just another arbitrary choice

that catches our attention, holds our thoughts,

and satisfies us until we are no longer content?
