Only me

Only me

A Poem by Priya Tyagi
"

This poem is about lost love and the longing one feels for a lover.

"

Keep me love

keep me in your fervent eyes

keep me in your warm breaths

keep me in your foggy veil

keep me in the rise and the fall of your chest

and of course, in the wild beating of your heart

Keep me love

keep me in your words unspoken

keep me in your glorifying vices

keep me in your evasive secrets

keep me in your naive misleading promises

and of course in the agonising echoes of our past

Keep me love

keep me as long as the seasons change

For I am not ready to be forgotten, yet

For I am not ready to be a story or a song

let my phantom torment you to madness

And let this chimaera return you to me

Only me

Yes, "For I am not ready to be a story or a song" lies at the heart of this piece. It is the cry of the lover not willing to bear separation from the beloved; the pain of the lover's desires breaking his heart; the blaming of his beloved for his pain. In the end there is "Only me" - acceptance and "fierce tears"(*) You have expressed the journey so well, Priya.
