Memories of Midnight

Memories of Midnight

A Poem by Shanmuga Priya
"

There's a place between sleep and awake, a place where you will still remember dreaming. . that's where i'll be waiting. . .

"

Slowly, I gaze out with eyes dreamy & wide

At the never ending stars that shines with pride

Drowning into the past, I recall the day we met

Clinging to your father you stand, with eyes moist & wet.

Little had I known how deep our lives were interwined

I’m sure I would have fled rather than being left behind

Years passed and together we grew

Amidst joy and sorrow just me and you

I still regret my hasty decision not seeing you that night

Did you leave me hoping I would just be alright?

You promised me saying ‘good old days & forever’

For this to end, what should I still endeavour?

Baby,is that you? Where have you been all this while?

‘I have been holding my life’ you say with a smile

Cool breeze fills the room, for now I see the starry sky

Reality pierces in despite of the number of times I deny

I force myself to continue the dream!!

Silently hoping to enter your realm

If I hadn’t been for that fateful day

My fate would have changed its way…

With eyes filled with tears,

I’ll keep missing you for years.

Wrapped beneath the cold sheets

A lonely heart beats!!!

A beautiful poem, woven with rhyme and flow. It is always the lonely nights that bring us back to face our past loved ones. Your writing is excellent. I enjoyed the last two lines the most.
Keep it up!
