The Rest Of Forever

The Rest Of Forever

A Poem by aj Foxley
"

Had a bad day. wrote this. I think it stinks, but someone wants me to post more.

"

The rest of forever

Everyone looks for things they need,

Just the thing to fill the hole.

We make our way, through years and days,

Led by our hand, by our soul.

I found a niche and filled it,

Expanding like a gas.

Happy with each transient adventure,

As long as each one lasts.

I never grew up.

Found it was all a lie.

Killing doesn’t make a man.

Never try. Never, never try.

Be a father, learn to dance,

Be a husband, learn to sing.

Be a soldier, and learn to speak.

Buy your soul, the tarnished blackened thing.

One day it will be worth it.

One day you can rest.

But pay for your sins,

And cash in all the rest.

The day you die, you divvy up.

In the black, or in the red.

If black, ascend to heaven.

If not, forget the dead.

Seems we never forget the dead... just toast them. You aren't as terrible as you want to be, shame cause that would make it easier to quit.

The intensity is overwhelming, rich in images, emotion, and honesty that quite literally has me taken aback. We are all in the end held accountable for how we live our lives, and sometimes those choices come to haunt us in the end. But to live with self-loathing for those choices will do nothing but make us stagnant. Although, there are times when those choices haunt us and for a few short moments we are consumed by them, and when those memories release their grip and pass, we can as well. In other instances, we become so consumed by them that we cannot see past the fog of our mistakes and we allow them plague us.

I found a niche and filled it,
Expanding like a gas.

Awesome imagery here. Ended it on a powerful note as well. You are amazing and I love this. I wouldn't change a thing about it. I read it five times and I'm still captivated by it-its intriguing.
