Once Upon A Time

Once Upon A Time

A Chapter by Cricket Kidd

Once Upon A Time.

Once

Upon

A

Time.

Once

     Upon

          A

               Time.

Never in the history of mankind have four words had such a profound influence. Five simple, yet powerful syllables. The humble beginnings of any fairytale worth the time it takes to read.

Once upon a time.

To start a story with that sentence, you imediately promise the reader an Adventure, Magic, Handsome Princes, Dreadful Dragons, Damsels in Distress, an Epic Battle, possibly an Exciting Escape on the back of some sort of Flying Creature, True Love that Conquers All,

and, of course,

the inevitable,

HappilyEverAfterTheEnd.

Because there is no way that you can start with once upon a time and NOT end with happily ever after.  At least, not that I know of. I don't think there is... I really hope there isn't... hmm...

Hmmm. Hm-m-m. Hm-m-m-m...

Huh? What was that you said?

No I'm not stalling! What could possibly make you think that I was stalling?

So what!? I like humming!

I am perfectly capable of telling this story. There couldn't possibly be anything easier than writing this. Who--?

You know what, Mr. smarty pants, you're right. There are lots of things easier than writing this story. Such as taking a relaxing stroll. Or baking a batch of muffins. Or eating a batch of muffins. or--

I AM NOT STALLING!

Fine. since you are just soooo anxious to read this. I'll just get on with it.

*sigh* here goes.

Once upon a time, it was too late.
