A Chapter by Cricket Kidd

The rest of the day made no impression on my mind. Afterwards, I couldn't remember a single thing after lunch time. All I could remember was the bell ringing for school to be ended, and missing my bus.
It shouldn't have happened. I should have been paying more attention to where I was going, but I wandered around the school for a while, and ended up on the top floor of the high school, looking out a window at my bus driving away.
"This is just swell." I muttered to myself as I started down the stairs and out the doors. Once outside, I began down the sidewalk towards home.
"Need a ride?"
I whirled around, ready to flee if the voice belonged to Shadow, but I found myself looking at Sophie Spellman. possibly the most popular cheerleader on the planet. (okay, I'm exaggerating, maybe not on the planet, but most definently in the school). She held up a ring of keys.
"Umm... Sure?" I said. I knew she was nice. She had probably never had a malicious thought towards anyone else in her life. I didn't have anything to worry about safety-wise. The reason for the question in my voice was that I thought that she didn't even know I existed.
"Great! just show me how to get to your house." she said turning to a pale green Volkswagon parked nearby.
I climbed into the passenger side, grateful to escape walking home in the rain that was just beginning to drizzle.
We had driven in silence for a few moments before Sophie asked a question.
"So... Madison Griffin told me you drew a nice picture today in math class."
I groaned inwardly.
"A unicorn named Jasymuri."
She waited for an answer from me, but none was forthcoming. we drove on in silence for a few more minutes.
"Cricket, there is something I hav--"
"Don't tell me, you had the same dream too." I interrupted.
She looked at me in astonishment. 'how--"
"A boy named Shadow had it too."
"Well ya. I already knew that."
This time looked at her, very confused.
"So did another girl named Emma Thorn, and two other guys named Theo Dunn and Alder Kirchoff."
I felt my mouth hanging open. and closed it slowly. Quickly, I did the math in my head.
"That makes six..." I whispered.
"Seven." She answered primly.
Slowly I shook my head. "No, there's me, you, Emma, Shadow, and those two other guys."
"Theo and Alder." She corrected. "and one more."
"Umm... who?"
"You're forgetting Jasymuri."

        "I don't believe you."
To my surprise, Sophie laughed.
"I didn't either until I met him." she smiled at my frown.
"unicorns don't exist. they are a myth that some sailors made up when they brought Narwhale horns home from their voyages.
"they do exist. I've met one. His name is Jasymuri and he is going to take us on The Quest."
"They are NOT--What quest?"
I couldn't help it, I was curious.
My brain was being very annoying. It was laughing at my logic and chanting "Unicorns exist! Unicorns exist!" in a sing-song voice. it made it difficult to figure out what was going on.
"not just a quest. We have been called to be on The Quest. with a capital T and a capital Q. It has been spoken of by The Prophesy As Old As Time, which was set into motion last Thursday."
I cracked up. I couldn't help it, she was making this whole mysterious serious speech about an ancient prophecy, and ended it with which was set into motion last Thursday.
"And you expect me to believe all of this." I said after My laughter had subsided.
"I can prove it." she said quietly.
"I seriously doubt that." I said after a moment of thought.
"Well then, why don't you let me?" she said, just as quiet as before.
"Let you what?"
"Prove it."
"Oh." I said, feeling slightly blonde. "Okay. why not?"
"Alright then." she said cheerily. "Let me take you to him."
"Let me take you to the unicorn."
