The Day After

The Day After

A Story by Cricket Kidd
"

I'm writing this for the 500 words group, and everyone has been writing way depressing stuff so I'm deciding to lighten up the mood for everyone. ;D.

"
I awoke to the warm touch of the sun stroking my cheek. For a moment I panicked, thinking I had slept in accidently and would be late for school. But no, as I slowly began to focus my sleep addled consciousness, I began to remember. slowly, a gentle smile of bliss spread from ear to ear, and I wrapped my arms around myself in a joyful hug of happiness.
Today was the day after school ended.
And the beginning of something wonderful.

Summer.

The word echoed around my head, becoming louder and louder as my excitement grew and grew.

Summer!

SUMMER!

SUMMER!!

Finally, that miraculous word built up, into something impossible to contain in my heart, into a joyful cry of pure ecstasy. I had to let the world know!

so I did.

"SUMMER IS HERE!!!!!!"
I screamed out with all my soul! I trumpeted my triumph to the Sky and to the four corners of the Earth! no longer would we be imprisoned in the jailhouse of the school, tormented by the droning of the teachers day in and day out while the beautiful snow built up outside and melted away slowly, almost painfully before our eyes.
We were FREE!

***************
I awoke to the sound of my daughter at 7:00 in the morning, and my soul sank deep into my feet. The thought came to my mind about what day it was, I didn't want to say it, but I didn't have to, my husband said it for me.

"It's the day after school ends, isn't it?"

lol I love this story. It is a very cheerful one and I love the way you ended it. I love the summer and warm weather. After a long cold winter here in Illinois I am glad that it is finally warming up here and this story makes me smile thinking about the warm summer sun and the fun that is to be had.

Wow, this is great! I love the end with the parents! lol, that's how it is XD
However, the last line, I think you're missing a letter. "I's" should be "It's", right?
This really got me stoked for summer! X3
