Emma, Jim and O'FinA Poem by John Preston
Emma and Jim went sailing with O’fin
Down to the shoreline did go, not swim O’fin, he asked, are you sure? You want to row. Emma and Jim looked in awe as they took hold of their oars. “Wow’ said Emma, this rowing boat is big Yes’ said O’fin, we could all do a jig So into the boat all did go, Emma and Jim sat facing dear O’Fin Just a moment said Emma; I’ll be back in a jiffy As quick as a flash she came back a little iffy O’fin pushing off from the jetty The island over there is just a mile said O’fin with a smile In and out, their ore’s did go puffing and panting faces glowed The wind picked up, lower the sail Thank goodness, our pace like a snail Wind took hold, boat rushing forth nearer, closer, island to the north Emma and Jim looking into the ocean both nausea with that rocking motion Turning heads both, over the side green faced, spilling into the tide So the shore they reached secure the boat on the beach Amusement park all did go, what a pleasure enjoyment and good time, always treasure Back to the boat at their leisure taking a lifebelt for good measure Evening dawned, time to leave is’ent it fun to make believe So back home, their daily tasks can we do that again, Emma asks. So short their stay, could be in a play like this poem I’m hoping not staying © 2014 John Preston |
