Life and death

Life and death

A Poem by prema

Reflections on life and death
Dragged out the latent poetess in me
But why I became reticent
When it came to life?

Life itself is a beautiful poem
To be read, written or learned by heart
Depending one's ability,
Performance and mindset.

Moral of the poem---
How well one understood?
Is the deciding factor
When you reach the end of it.

Life after death ---
Has anyone seen tomorrow?
But tomorrow is another day
At least for some.

I'm trying to write short stories which entertain, and hopeful are interesting enough for people to read so my experience with poetry is limited. It seems the most popular medium on this forum and I guess is the ultimate short story. Anyway, please forgive my clumsy effort and I hope encourages you.

It's a thoughtful reflection on the intertwined nature of these two universal experiences. Acknowledging that contemplating life and death brings out the inner poet in them, yet there's a curious hesitation when it comes to writing about life itself. It feels like the poet is pointing out how life can be complex and multifaceted that it’s hard to capture in words, even for a poet.

The poem’s metaphor of life as a beautiful poem is striking. It suggests that life can be experienced in different ways, whether you’re someone who lives with deep intention, someone who goes with the flow, or someone who holds onto every moment. It’s a reminder that our approach to life is personal and subjective, shaped by who we are.

Is there a "moral to the poem?" does bring it home, it’s not just about living, but about understanding and making sense of our lives. It’s a subtle but powerful way to close the poem, reminding us of the everyday continuity of life even in the face of its ultimate end.

Overall, reflective and philosophical, encouraging readers to think about life and death not just as concepts, but as experiences to be understood and lived with awareness. It’s a thoughtful piece that lingers in the mind.

Good Job.

I listen and have listened to so much music seems song lyrics just jump into my brain - "life is a long song" - Jethro Tull ... "I'm on the way to find out" Cat Stevens This is what came to me as I read your poem. Actually read it at least three times and it opened up more each time. "Life is a beautiful poem...moral...how well you understood...life after death...tomorrow is another day...at least for some." really like the use of latent and reticent in first stanza - the whole first stanza is really great. glad I came by - enjoyed your work -carl
