Reminiscing mother

Reminiscing mother

A Poem by prema

                           Reminiscing mother
O' mother it's been more than three decades
since you were no more with us
you were the lamp that we got lost
still, we try to be resplendent in the glow you left behind.

I grew old and forlorn the day you'd gone
an event I reminisce -- I deviated
while circumambulating in a faraway temple
your query to passersby was -"anyone seen a child passing this way?"
none could reply for in their eyes I was a grown up lady!

I'd seen vendors at daybreak selling their wares
first and foremost to you, hoping to profit more
and your compassion towards downtrodden
Lo presto! one should see to believe.

Divine taste of food cooked by you
many secretly covet to get a taste
you lived your life with the shield of tenets
you yourself had created.

I could never live up to your expectation
or is it that I got subsumed by your brilliance?
like the lighted candle in broad sunlight
Painfully I now reckon, I caused you distress and unhappiness

Still the values you instilled in me
are so strong that in many births hereafter
If I may take so, I shall never compromise
On virtues you bestowed on me, come what may!

O' mother a little princess has born to me after your departure
I now pass the legacy of your qualities to her
May you feel happy and contentment for me
and bless us from your heavenly abode.

I love poems about mothers dear Prima..
I know you asked me to read your work and review..
I am happy to do so... You have several very good words and lines...but I see no structure to you poem..
It feels more like a short story...
The idea of your mother being gone... of you really not appreciating her wisdom while she was alive and now having a child that you would hope to inspire is what I basically feel the poem is about... Oh yes, and coming back and being a better person..
I think if you go over it and leave some words out it would be more structured and better to read. Perhaps a rhyme would be good..
I am no expert..so i am so sorry if I have offended you..

Thankyou for the review. I do agree with you. It is more like prose than poetry. But then I call man.. read more
