Motherhood

Motherhood

A Poem by prema

          Motherhood

It's the same old tale of Bhangasvana, the king
whose name and fame even today folks sing
Irritated the Lord Indra, so mean
Transformed the king into a woman.

Those were the days the chief had to be a man
Also lost his role as husband, being a woman
Had to flee to forest in a bid
To lead a life abandoning his many a kid.

In the wild she found an ascetic
Wedded to him in cryptic
With him another set of children she gave birth
Her life turned out to be full of mirth.

The demonic Indra couldn't digest
Her blessed life, somehow he could divest
Caused the two set of progenies to fight
They killed each other with sheer might.

Once the carnage complete, Indra felt remorse
Revive one set of children, he did endorse
Bhangsvanaa opted the one he not fathered
But as a woman, for which he was bothered.

On grounds that love for offspring of a female
Is far superior to that of a male
Happily she lived thereafter in the forest,
Celebrating motherhood in earnest.
