JOE AND JANE

JOE AND JANE

A Poem by Prateeksha Khot
"

a quirky and funny poem about friends who discover love in each other

"

Once a boy Joe and a girl Jane,

fell in love-

Fools both of them.

Such fools,

that you will never find,

another pair again.

Said the boy to the girl

"Let's marry."

"Yes! Yes!", said the girl,

"But we must hurry".

Then the girl fell silent

and pondered a lot,

'Smart as I am(she said)

I now have a doubt.

You want to marry,

(Yes I do, he said)

and I want to marry too,

('That you have already said')

But who will marry the two of us?'

'Now, now,' said the boy,

'Don't make a fuss.

This is a great problem,

It makes me think; It surely does.

But I have an idea.

('Oh what is it?')

Let's put an AD in the newspaper,

It will cost us only a bit.

My AD will say :

WANTED A BEAUTIFUL BRIDE

and yours will say :

MY PRINCE CHARMING SHOULD ON A HORSE RIDE.'

So off they went to the press,

of themselves feeling proud.

And being jolly and gay,

they went singing aloud.

A week later

they eagerly went to see,

if they had any response from someone,

But to their shock

and to their surprise,

They each had only one.

He opened his own

and read it with pride,

Because it said : I WOULD CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY,

TO BE YOUR BRIDE.

and the name 'Jane '

was written at the side.

And when she opened hers

it said :

'WITHOUT YOU PRINCESS,

I WOULD CONSIDER MYSELF AS GOOD AS DEAD.

CONSIDER ME AS A FRIEND

AND NOT AS A FOE.'

And the name written

at the end was 'Joe'.

It seemed each had

upon the other's AD chanced by,

and wanting a partner very much themselves,

had decided to reply.

She looked at him and blushed,

and he blushed too.

' I AM MARRYING YOU JANE',he said,

' WILL YOU MARRY ME TOO?'

She said YES and he was happy,

and they got married later.

And rest be assured that they lived

happily ever after.

Years later when they thought

of the problem they had had,

They congratulated themselves on finding a 'BRILLIANT SOLUTION'.

that was not at all bad.

Such lovely foolishness. Your Joe and Jane surely are such adorable people to make a fuss over something so insane. You create a beautiful satire here, one I've never read before. Simply unique.

Keep Writing. ^___^
