A Public Speaker

A Public Speaker

A Poem by Prabhudas Sajeev
"

The road to become a public speaker...

"

From my childhood onwards I had been too shy

of facing the public and I just don't know why.

In those moments my throat dries and limbs shake

and the air becomes so dense and difficult for intake.

This involuntary behaviour had troubled me too much

and it was ever a cause for others to avoid me as such.

I had tried to master my mind and become firm and stable

but I failed as I thought such things can happen only in a fable.

But last month, I was made to speak in a public gathering

against my will, and I walked to the podium quavering.

But somehow, for the first time I delivered a speech without qualms

and to my wonder, I returned to my seat amidst the people's claps.

I needed just that one incident to realize my hidden strengths

and you too have those immense potential in your depths.

You just have to realize it, desire it and be it's seeker,

and my dear friends, that is how I am now a public speaker.
