I Am Alive

I Am Alive

A Poem by Jasmine Smith

Scenes of the end flickered through my mind

Hating myself

Hated my life

No love to see

All became too much

Too much to handle

Was there peace in death

Death followed me

Wrapping around my soul

Squeezing me until I couldn’t breathe

Vultures waiting patiently for their prey

They circled around me

They knew my end was near

Ready to devour my flesh as my soul drifted away

Into nothingness, into Hell

For I was ready to fly away

With the barrel pressed softly against my head

I knew that was it

My fingers tightly gripping the trigger

No fear trickled through my body

But wait

A small child, a change of mind

Could it be

I am here

Could it be

I am loved

A mystery then

A fact now

The God above

My knight in shining armor

Put the gun down for me

The vultures flew away in a hurry

Death loosened his grip

God my savior

Saved my life

I am loved

I am wanted

I have a future

I am alive
