Pray

Pray

A Poem by Jasmine Smith

Saying clean me, show me a way
Still your iniquities wrap around you
Squeezing until you cannot breathe
Choking you
Traditional words not want
Need but not want
Your mind doesn't believe your mouth
Why not?
Continually the same
Old and forgotten now new and remembered
Coming back just to remind you
Show you
Who you used to be
What you used to partake in
Is that really you
If so, does change pass your mind
No it doesn't
You think it does but it doesn't
Not really
You want it to
Maybe one day
Falling into the pit created by your flesh, you cry out
Cry out to the one who watches from above
Will He help if you were to ask
Yes
But do you ask
You do ask but you don't really ask
Really ask
Really want
Really need
Really yearn
Really desire
For what?
For His helping hand
This is not you, You are not it
You think you are but you are not

It is true
Plead for forgiveness
He shall forgive
Mean it
Don't say it
Speak it
