Nothing Less

Nothing Less

A Poem by Jasmine Smith

A beautiful ocean I gaze upon
I look to see a gorgeous dawn
Stars that shine oh so bright
Lighting up a magnificent night
A little crab crawling silently through the sand
A beautiful dolphin swimming and leaping near land
Seven days to make something so lovely
For there is none above thee
A feeling of insignificance falls upon me
Such a small piece in this big world I see
Standing among your creations
One little person among the nation's
Still you spent nine months to make little ol' me
Making me unique in my mother's belly
Creating me different than the rest
My life I owe and nothing less
For you see me greater than anything you have created before
You see my beauty and even more
You love me despite my faults and sins
Even though I fail again and again
You graciously walk beside me every day
Even when I choose to do things my way
You give me everything yet I give you nothing
You deserve everything not just something
So I give you back the life that I live
For that is the least I can give
Do as you please with me my Lord
For I come of my own accord
I am your canvas, you are the artist so paint
Make me a follower not just a saint
You are the potter I am the clay
Form and shape me in your way
Such beauty made and yet made me
For that I give you everything
