Chapter III

Chapter III

A Chapter by Sarabeara!

III.
“Take heed, O King. I have come bearing news.”
The once gruff, now startled and docile, King looked up at the envoy. “I think I have had quite enough news for one day,” he muttered, nearly inaudibly. His eyes wandered to the letter at the man’s feet. He then looked back upon his divine hands, now battered, beaten, and throbbing.
The tall, lanky man, in tattered clothes, watched the King blankly. He waited for the King’s attention, and on cue, began the means of his mission. “I pray you listen, King. I shall read my Lord’s words:
‘How dare you, King of Hillshire
Make a mockery of my throne.
Make my people fear me, dare you
Their sins “to great to atone.”

How dare you, King of Hillshire
Place yourself so high above me.
How can you not perceive
That I am the land, the sky, and the sea?

I made you what you are
However much you wish to deny
I placed you on that throne
Yet I am the king you defy!

How dare you say that my existence
Is only a peasant’s dream
And those only noble enough to serve you
May assist you in your regime.

For it is I, and only I,
Who is the greatest king of all
That shall rule this kingdom with confidence
And lead them out of the squall.

You are a king of heathens,
A king of idolizers and beasts,
You are a king of nothing
Not even the crumbs that fall to my feet.

It is I who is the judge tonight
Of the morally wrong and the morally right.
I advise you make no more commands
About the validity of your fellow man.

Continue to hate, envy, and greed
Whilst wearing your pompous façade
It may be wise to begin to fear
The impartial wrath of the Lord, Your God.’”

A draft fell over the throne room. The King shuddered, not at the draft, but at the messenger’s words. “And who might you be, so high and mighty, to have the nerve to speak to your king this way?”
“You have a bounty on my head, sire. Your knights have been searching for me for weeks. It is I, Langley, and you shall never be my king.”
