summer2011

A Poem by porkchops

The shot to the chest was the spark to ignite the flame,

the police reaction to the community was not to explain,

as an answer couldn't be given for their act of shame.

The youth reaction was to scream and shout,

with a message to the powers that be,

load and clear they said don't you dare forget me.

Some just saw the rabble, the smash and burn,

they call it street crime,

but the streets are the crime,

with shops a blazen with the unattainable dream,

a reminder of your place in the echalon of society.

The dank and dark spreads mold to fester the wall of my soul,

I see a jutification to blaze the blazen with the reality fire,

one that is real for the majority,

a message to the privilaged that says "yes! you should fear me"

My thoughts opposed to that of the media coverage of the summer riots that were sparked off when Mark Duggan, a 29-year-old black man, was shot on 4 August 2011 by police in Tottenham, North East London, England.
