Awaken

Awaken

A Poem by John Meisenheimer

Drugs and guns
Proliferating through the streets,
Brothers destroying one another,
A conspiracy!
The plan’s almost complete.

Peruvian flake exported,
Imported
So the race could be distorted,
Judicially and politically extorted.

Blind-folded,
Not meant to see,
Forced into the ghettos
Nestled into poverty.

Subsidized housing
Where little Brothers and Sisters are playing,
Broken glass and needles everywhere,
An attempt at social delousing.

Welfare reform act,
But where’s the reform at?
Sisters trained to patiently wait
Every month to get paid.
Barely enough money,
So who’s getting played?

Drugs dealt and legs spread
To rise above the rest,
Gangsters playing at night
As the race dwindles in the process.
