Sweet DreamsA Poem by Kaitlyn DanielleI wrote this after waking up one morning. I guess I grew tired of holding in my nightmares. Mommy’s little girl, Dressed in pink. With hair in pig-tails. This is a sweet dream. She comes running up to me, Screaming my name, And wraps her arms around my leg. This is a sweet dream. She exclaims her love to me. She says she’ll never leave me. I promise her that I’ll always love her. This is a sweet dream. She holds up a dandelion, I take the flower she’s given me. And I hug her tightly and weep softly. This is a sweet dream. She normally asks, “Where’s Daddy?” I say that he’ll be here in a while. Though I know he’ll never come back. Sweet dreams can be night mares. She tells me that she loves The man she never sees. I tell her that he loves her too. Sweet dreams can be nightmares.
Even though he never cared. I know that he does for her. She knows that he’ll come around. Sweet dreams can be nightmares. Every night she asks, If she can see him. And I simply say, “Not tonight.” Sweet dreams can be nightmares. Once in a while he appears. In my dreams with her. That’s when she is at her happiest. This is a sweet dream. On those times, we are truly a family. She tells him that she loves him. Though he may not know it, I do too. This is a sweet dream. But he disappears the next night. And she asks, “Where’s Daddy?” I simply say, “He’ll be here…” This is a sweet dream. Mommy’s little girl, Dressed in pink. With hair in pig-tails. This is a sweet dream. © 2011 Kaitlyn Danielle |
