What It's Like to Be a Dreamer (for Those of You Who Aren't)

A Poem by Kayla
"

The prompt was "what it's like to be a ______ (for those of you who aren't).

"

Imagine waking up in a world

where there are endless possibilities.

No limits,

no logic,

just living.

Being a dreamer is like

opening your eyes for the first time.

Each day is something new,

Everything in the world can have a metamorphosis

into a deeper beauty of its own.

It’s like

taking something fragile and making it strong,

working for what is right even if to others it seems wrong.

Being a dreamer is like

putting on x-ray glasses,

looking beyond what is given,

seeing the good on Earth,

seeing the beauty,

embracing the world

despite its flaws.

Dreamers are not

candles that can be snuffed with one breath-

We are eternal.

We give others hope,

and we light up the world

when all anyone else sees is darkness.

Being a dreamer is

believing in our dreams.

It is knowing that life is short,

making the most of what time we have.

It is cherishing each breath and acting on everything we believe

Because we know

that this breath may be our last,

And our oxygen dwells in the phrase

Carpe diem.
