Unexpected Chapter 30A Chapter by Julie Beth
One thing I have learned living with two teenage guys, is that one, they are pigs and tow, and they fight over the stupidest stuff. I thought that today, I could get the chance to sleep in, just a little bit, but no. Carson and Xavier were up fighting at six thirty in the morning. I tried to block it out for a good five minutes before I lost my temper. I flung the sheets back and marched right into the kitchen where Carson and Xavier were fighting over the last bowl of trix cereal. "HEY!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. Carson and Xavier instantly stopped and looked at me. "I'm going to say this once, and only one." I pointed my finger at them for effect. "Either you can split the bowl, both of you wait a half an hour till the supermarket opens, or I giving the trix to the freaking rabbit! Either way, SHUT THE HELL UP!" I yelled at the last part. I didn't care. I didn't want today to come, I don't want to go say goodbye to my grandpa and watch them bury him in the ground. I also don't want to listen to pain-in-the-a*s one and pain-in-the-a*s two fight over a bowl of cereal. "Well, aren't you a bucket of sunshine in the morning." Xavier said in a sarcastic voice. I narrowed my eyes at both of them, giving my best death glare. Then I twisted on my feet, and went back to bed. Two hours later, I was up, showered, and slipping into my black v-neck dress that hugged my skin. I tried to zipper it up, but no use, I needed help. I walked out into the kitchen where Carson and Xavier were. "Babe, can you zip me up?" I asked Carson as he got up Carson was in black dress pants, light green dress shirt, and a matching tie. Xavier had on the same pant, but a purple dress shirt and matching tie. "Well don't you guys look nice." I said as I turned around so Carson could zip me up. "Thank you." Carson replied then he leaned into my ear. "Thank you for wearing my favorite bra, it looks great on you." He replied as he zipped me up. I turned around and slapped him on the chest. "The dress looks great on you too." Carson said smirking. Like I said, they're pigs.
After we picked up Jasmine, we headed over to the funeral home. My mom and Hannah were outside waiting for us, but they weren't the only one's there. My mom was talking with a man, or arguing more like, she looked pissed. My heartbeat started pounding in my chest, and I was getting lightheaded. The last person I expected to see here was my dad. Carson saw him at the same time I did. His face went from calm to rage in a matter of seconds. He and Xavier jumped out of the car and ran to my mom’s side. Why now? Why today. Jasmine looked at me. "Maddy, are you sure you want to do this?" I look ahead where Carson and Xavier are standing by my mom’s side. I nodded my head, took a deep breath and got out of the car. I walked up to where my parents where everyone was standing and heard them fighting. "Don't give me that bull s**t Mark." My mom yelled at him. "Get the hell out of here or I’m calling the cops." "Come on Jen," My dad said calmly. "Don't be like that, he was my dad too." This made my fists clench, I swelled with rage. The day my grandfather got sick, my dad told my mom to suck it up and get over it because he won't be missed when he was gone. "ARE YOU F-" My mom shouted but I cut her off. "Can we all just shut the hell up for two hours" I interjected. "I don't want my dad here anymore than the nest person, but I don't want grandpa to look down as were saying our final goodbye and see that we're trying to kill each other. So stay out here and fight all you want, but I’m going to do what I came here to do." Then I went inside and I knew everyone was following me. I took a seat in between Carson and Hannah and stayed as far away from my dad as I could. I didn't look at him or speak to him. Even though the service was small, it was beautiful. There were flowers everywhere and pictures of him and of him and grandma. I know he's happy he'll be with her again. He loved her so much. Hannah and I put flowers on his casket. It hurt me so much to see Hannah cry like this, I think I’ll buy her a teddy bear next time I’m out as a feel better present. After the service was done, I went over to my mom. My dad was nowhere in sight, but his car was still there. My mom hugged me closely. "I'm sorry I missed your birthday baby, I’ll make it up to you when we get settled in. We'll have a little party; me you and Hannah. How's that sound?" Don't get me wrong I loved that my mom wanted to celebrate with me, but I needed to talk to her about something more important. "It sounds great mom, but I have to talk to you." I replied and she was looking at me with her undivided attention because she could tell this was serious. "Mom I want a restraining order against dad. I don't want him near more, or my baby." I said with a tear running down my face. My mom nodded her head in agreement. "I know, you're right Maddy,i'll call my lawyer and we'll work something out okay. You know what as my birthday gift to you, I’ll help you buy staff for the baby, that sound good?" she switched the topic trying not to make me worry as much. I sighed and played along. "Sounds great mom." I gave my mom a quick squeeze and then went to go say goodbye to Hannah. The last I saw her, she told me she was going to the front of the church to go play with all the flowers. I walked over there and saw that Hannah wasn't alone, my dad was next to her playing with all the flowers. I could tell Hannah was tense. I got over there as fast as I could. "Hannah," I said out of breath, this being big thing isn't working out for me. Hannah looked up and became a little relaxed once she saw me. "It's time to go sweetheart." I held out my hand and Hannah took it. "Maddy," My dad said, but I ignored him and kept walking. "I will go to court and take custody of my baby! You're too young to take care of him." I stopped in my tracks and whirled around then shouted back. "Yeah well you're too sick to take care of him, mentally. Stay the hell away from me." Then I turned around and kept walking with Hannah by my side. It's been a day since the funeral. I haven't told anyone about what happened with my dad and I, I wasn't planning on it. Carson was reading a book and Xavier was watching TV. I'm so sick of this place I want to go out. "Carson, can we go out tonight? Just you and me?" I asked as he looked up from his book. He was wearing his glasses, I loved those glasses. "You want to go out on a date tonight?" Carson asked a bit confused as if I was speaking another langue. "Yes, it's Saturday night! I want to go out." I begged. Carson sighed and looked down at his book. "Can't tonight I have to work." Carson turned the page of his book and kept reading. I glanced at Xavier for help but he just shrugged. "So, we can go to a movie after you get off work. It would be fun." "It would be late, really late. We're getting a shipment of puppies so I won't get off work till eleven thirty, midnight. We'll have to do it some other night." "I don't want to some other night, I want to go out tonight." I whined I know I’m sounding like a two year old, but Carson and I haven't been on an actual date in forever. "Carson pleases, we haven't had a date since we had sex, and I want a date." I forgot that Xavier was in the room and didn't remember until he broke out laughing. Carson cleared his throat and I blushed a deep red. "Sorry." "Xavier wills you be Maddy's date tonight?" Carson asked Xavier without looking up from his book. Xavier was still laughing when he said. "Maddy, I will go with you, but I’m not having sex with you." I narrowed my eyes and slapped him on the arm. "Cut it out." I warned him as I got up. "While you're up go see what movies are playing." Xavier called out.
Xavier I got out of the movies around eleven o'clock at night. We ended up seeing Insidious, which was one of the scariest movies I ever saw. The most messed up thing about that was, Xavier was the only person in the movie theater laughing. He's one of those stupid fearless people. "So Maddy, how was that for a first date?" Xavier nudged me playfully when we got in his car. "There’s not going to be a second date between us Xavier. I don't know how Jasmine's still with you." I retorted, Xavier laughed. "So, did you and Carson really work it out, or are you guys just saying you did?" I asked curious. I tried to asked Carson, but he fell asleep. I think the stress of the baby is getting to him. "Yeah, he ranted and then he wanted to know why I didn't tell him in the first place." I looked at Xavier and somehow felt like I was here before. "Why didn't you tell him?" "Well, he's really protective in general. He's older than I am and always treated me like a younger brother. He see's Jasmine as a threat because let’s face it, she can be a total b***h. He's only seen that part of her though. He doesn't know how amazing and nice she can be because he doesn't want to. In shorter terms, he's like an overprotective mother." Xavier explained. Although that was very sweet and touching, I had to laugh at the fact that he referred to Carson as an overprotective mother. "Nice." I said yawning. Xavier looked at me and I could tell he was tired too. "I'm going to take the back roads home, it'll be quicker, less traffic and stuff." Xavier explained as he took a turn onto a back road. It was really quiet, the radio was playing, and the last thing I remember is a car swerving into our lane. The car smashed right into us and then everything went black. © 2011 Julie BethAuthor's Note
