Unexpected Chapter 29

Unexpected Chapter 29

A Chapter by Julie Beth

When I woke up, it was six pm. everything was blurry, but I felt a lot better. I walked into the kitchen were Xavier was once again on his laptop. He didn't look up from his computer screen or notice me... maybe he was talking to his new 'girlfriend'. Was Jasmine actually trying to be my friend, or was she just sucking up to me?

I walked over to the cupboard and opened it. Right when I opened it a big glass fell out on to the floor and shattered. I sighed frustrated and tried to bend down to get it, but Xavier grabbed my arm and pulled me back. "I can do it Xavier." I shot at him in a frustrated tone. I pulled my arm back, but Xavier took it back and pulled me away.

"I'm not saying you can't Maddy," Xavier said in the same tone of voice, "But, you don't have any shoes on and you're bleeding. I'll clean it up." I didn't care that I was bleeding I was going to clean up my mess. I got up and once again bent down to start picking up pieces. "What the hell Maddy," Xavier yelled. "I told you no!"

"STOP IT!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. Everything went really quiet and Xavier looked at me.

"Stop, What?" He sneered. "You're the one wh-" I cut him off.

"Stop treating me like I’m a stupid five year old. Stop hiding s**t from me because you don't think I can handle it! If I can handle being raped and losing my grandpa, then I can handle you dating Jasmine! The one thing I can't handle though is my best friend keeping secrets from me, so just stop it." Xavier looked at the ground thinking for a minute, and then his head shot up.

"Did you go through my computer?" Xavier demanded as he stared at me with a dead glare.

"I didn't go through it, it was open." I replied as Xavier scoffed in disbelief. "Wow, is that so." Xavier said in a pissed off tone. “Cause I know damn well that I didn't leave that up, hell I didn't even open that message."

"Where you even going to tell me? Or were you just going to tell Jasmine that you told me."

"Why should I? Everyone’s so focused on your damn pregnancy, no one would have noticed and even if they did, it's not like they give a rat’s a*s." Xavier retorted as he chucked the small pieces of glass in the trash can, and went to the closet to get the broom. It would be wrong of me say that wasn't true, but it still hurt be like hell.

"Then deflect the attention away from my pregnancy Xavier. I'm your best friend...I’m just hurt you didn't tell me." I admitted to him. Then I took a deep breath and said, "I'm also sorry I went through your computer. I was just curious because I didn't know that you had more than two friends." I smiled as him.

"I have two hundred sixty-eight friends! Facebook says so and if it's on facebook, it's official." Xavier said defensively as got up to get his laptop, trying to prove himself.

"Out of the two hundred sixty-eight, you only talk to two. So you have two hundred sixty-five friends’ fake friends, two real friends..." I stated as he smirked at me.

"If you subtract two from eight, you get six, not five." Xavier retorted as I looked at him and continued what I was saying.

"And one real girlfriend." I finished smiling at him "So, do you forgive me?" I gave him my puppy dog eyes. Xavier did a dramatic sigh, "I guess." He said in a fake warn out voice. I rolled my eyes at him.

"You feeling better? You look better." Xavier stared to make conversation as I helped him clean up the glass.

"Yeah, I think it was just, I don't even know." I shrugged it off, and then I asked him, "So do you have something to wear for Friday, because I don't. I was going to have Carson drive me to the mall when he gets back from work so I can get something, do you want to come?" I asked as I watched Xavier pick up the last of the mess.

"Yeah, I need something to wear,” Xavier hesitated, I could tell he wanted to say something.

"Are you going to say what you want to, or do I need to tie you up and torture it out of you?" I questioned him as I waited for my answer. He looked down at the ground.

"Well, I sort of told Jasmine we could hang out tonight..." Xavier trailed off.

"So, we'll take her with us. She can come on Friday too, she knew my grandpa. She's your girlfriend, take her where you want." I replied like it wasn't a big deal, because to me it wasn't a big deal.

"It's not that easy...Carson really doesn't like Jasmine." Xavier said looking a bit worried. I should remember to ask Carson how he found out about them.

"Yeah, well, Carson was the last to put away the glasses and almost killed me because he placed them wrong, so he owes me. Why don't you go to Jasmine's and we'll pick you up when he get back from work, okay?" I said trying to figure out how I was going to convince Carson about this one.

"You're the best Maddy." Xavier said as he hugged me, and then got ready to go and see Jasmine.

Carson got home an hour later. He was in his blue shirt that said Dave's pet shop, and tan khakis. When he came in, I was on the couch reading a blog for pregnant teens, and what they should expect when the baby's born. I'm starting to freak out because the only good thing I’m reading is that babies are cute.

"Hey Maddy, feeling any better?" Carson asked as he threw his backpack on the table.

"I'm fine..." I replied not really paying attention. Carson walked up to me and looked over my shoulder.

"You'll be fine," Carson reassured me while rubbing my shoulders. "It's different for everyone." Carson kissed my forehead quickly then added "We can go once I get changed." Then, Carson walked down the hall into his room.

I was going to go as I was, but since Jasmine's coming, I think I’m going to change. I know if I don't, she'll give me hell. I put Xavier laptop on the counter and then went down the hall and into Carson's room.

When I walked in, Carson had on a pair of ripped jeans, and no shirt. I walked over to the closet and pulled out a pair of light flare jeans, and a black tank top.

"Are you sure you're okay? You're really quiet." Carson stated as I shrugged off the sweats.

"I'm fine," I replied as I put on my jeans. I still can't get over the fact they fit, I just have to wear them a bit lower than usual. "It's my stupid hormones; they're messing up my mood." I paused for a moment then decided it was a good time to ask, 'Carson, how did you find out Jasmine and Xavier were dating?" Carson scoffed, and then rolled his eyes.

"I don't think that's dating...” He mumbled, and then said, "How did Xavier tell you?"

"He didn't." I pulled my tank top over my head and put Carson's sweat shirt on. "He left his facebook page up so I snooped, you're avoiding my question." I reminded him. He turned away and grabbed a black t-shirt and yanked it over his head.

"When I came home after dropping you off at your grandpa's, I caught them on the couch." Carson told me as he pulled on his shoes. "You look hot by the way." I rolled my eyes; he was trying to change the subject.

"Don't change the subject!" I snapped at him. "What do you mean you 'caught' them? And why didn't you tell me?" I demanded as I sat down on the bed. Carson sighed and plopped down next to me.

"I caught them making out, both of them without a shirt on, but I wasn't looking at Jasmine." Carson added in quickly because I was giving him a death glare. "I didn't tell you because Xavier said he wanted to tell you himself. Obviously, he waited too long."

"Yeah, just a bit." I looked down at Carson's sweatshirt then took a breath, I knew he wasn't going to like this, but he'll deal. "So, Xavier is coming with us to go get clothes for Friday."

"Well then, Xavier better get his butt in the car because we're leaving." Carson said with a smirk on his face.

"Well, Xavier is at Jasmine's..." I trailed off and the smirk on Carson's face slowly disintegrated.

"Why do I feel as though I’m not going to like this at all?" Carson narrowed his eyes.

"Look, he's your best friend and he's my best friend. I know you don't like his girlfriend, but can you at least pretend to get along. I know you can, you did it when we all went out to eat." Carson sighed in defeat.

"I really don't like this idea." Carson growled as he got up and grabbed the car keys off the nightstand.

"And I really don't care." I retorted as I crossed my arms over my chest and followed him out to the car.

When we pulled into Jasmine's driveway, Carson honked the horn and waited for them to come out. I know that Carson isn't happy that Jasmine is coming with us shopping...and he's upset Xavier’s coming too. The other night Carson told me he missed going out, and I do too. We use to have so much fun on our dates.

The car ride down here was really quiet. Other than me telling Carson that Jasmine was coming to the funeral and him sighing, there wasn't much conversation. Xavier and Jasmine piled in the back. The second Jasmine shut the door, Carson pulled out of the driveway.

"What, no hi?" Xavier questioned jokingly. I rolled my eyes, but he couldn't see. Carson mumbled for him to shut up. "Wow, you can definitely feel the tension in here." Xavier laughed nervously. "You guys get into a fight?"

"No." I responded at the same time Carson said yes. I looked at him and he gave me a disapproving look. I sighed then said. "It was a disagreement, not a fight. There is a difference."

"Whatever you say Maddy." Carson replied as he anxiously tapped his hands on the steering wheel.

"What did you guys disagree about, if you don't mind me asking?" Jasmine asked in her sweet innocent voice.

"Nothing." I said as Carson, being the a*s he is says, "We were disagreeing about the two of you." I looked at him in disbelief.

"Are you serious Carson?" I demanded. What the hell was his problem? "You can't get over it for five freaking seconds?!" Now I was getting upset, if he couldn’t deal with this now, what was Friday going to be like?

"Yes Maddy, I am serious. Sorry I can't get over it, it's not my fault." Carson shot back I shook my head in disbelief.

"Alright, whatever, I’m not getting in the middle of this. When we get to the mall, drop off me and Jasmine at the entrance. We'll go shopping for our clothes alone because obviously, you and Xavier have some issues you need to work out." I snapped at him.

The rest of the car ride was quiet. The second Carson pulled up to the mall entrance; I hopped out of the car. Jasmine took a bit more time. Carson rolled down the passenger window while Jasmine was getting out. "What do you want us to do when we find our clothes?" Carson called out. I didn't turn around to look at him.

"When you're done finding your clothes, work out your issues with Xavier. When you've done that, one of you can call Jasmine." I responded as Jasmine finished saying goodbye to Xavier. Then we walked into the mall as Carson and Xavier went to go park the car.

It didn't take long for Jasmine and I to find dresses; in fact, we were in and out in a matter of seconds. Jasmine had already found a store online where you can get dresses. Once we tried them on, we paid for them, and then we decided to go shop for the baby.

"So, I don't want you and Carson to fight over me. I can break it off with Xavier if it's easier for you." Jasmine told me as we entered babies’ r us. I rolled my eyes.

"No, you're not breaking it off with Xavier because Carson is being a freaking baby about this. He'll get over it." I responded still pissed off at Carson, I don't get what's up with him. He should want Xavier to be happy, not miserable.

"Thanks." Jasmine smiled. "So, did you want to look at clothes, bottles, beds, the possibilities are endless." Jasmine offered. I know I should be looking at serious stuff like cribs, but I can't help myself.

"I want to go look at clothes, I love baby clothes." I said as Jasmine laughed and started to head off to the clothes department.

Carson and Xavier went into the suit department of JCpenny. Carson honestly didn’t care what he wore to the funeral at this point in time. Xavier, on the other hand, already had something picked out and was just waiting on Carson.

Neither of them spoke yet, but Carson knew that Maddy wasn't going to talk to him again until he worked this out.

"What about this one." Carson asked Xavier as he stepped out of the dressing room in black dress pant and a light green dress shirt. This was the first thing Carson said to Xavier since the girls got out of the car, and he old said it because he was sick of the silence.

"It's fine." Xavier shrugged, "But you'll need a tie to match it." Carson rolled his eyes; he didn't have the patients for this.

"Why the hell would you date her?" Carson blurted out. "She was a total b***h to Maddy, Jesus she slapped Maddy. You even told me to my face that you didn't like her and then one day I come home and you're practically screwing her." Carson exclaimed "What the hell happened?" Xavier was taking by surprise, he thought that Carson was just going to tell Maddy that they worked it out, guess not. "It's not even that." Carson continued. "What pisses my off the absolute most is, you didn't tell me. Damn it Xavier, I was your first friend and I’m your best friend. Yet you still didn't tell me." Carson said lowering his voice now that he was done ranting. Xavier took a deep breath and thought about something for a second.

"Do you really want to know why I didn't tell you?' Xavier asked Carson calmly as he ran his hand through his hair.

"Yes, I do, and don't bullshit your answer." Carson told Xavier with a serious expression on his face.

"Alright go get in your normal clothes, and then I’ll tell you."

"You want to know what’s really bad." I said as I stared at all the little baby clothes.

"What can be bad, these clothes are so cute!" Jasmine exclaimed as she held up a one piece with ducks on it. I laughed, Jasmine could hold her own damn well, but when it comes to babies, she turns to mush.

"I don't have a nursery or anything planned out for this kid yet. He doesn't even have a name." I said as I looked at a cute one piece. It was blue with little race cars on it. I held it up to Jasmine and got another awe that’s so cute.

"Maddy, you have a month left; it's time to move things along here." Jasmine retorted with a hand gesture. I rolled my eyes.

"I'm sorry; it was sort of a last minute decision."

"Well, I think we should start buying things...now. Like this little one piece with the ducks." I laughed because Jasmine was using her baby voice.

"Okay, I don't have all the money in the world on me right now. So, we will get these two one pieces, one bottle, a bag of diapers, and one thing of formula." I told her making an imaginary check list in my head. Jasmine and I went around the store and got everything I said. We were about to get in the checkout line when we passed the unisex section where I saw the cutest one piece. It was white with a little lion on it. Jasmine was looking at me; her eyes were begging me to get it.

"Fine, three one pieces." I said as I picked it up and Jasmine laughed.

"You really should have a baby shower." Jasmine told me. I sighed; I didn't want a baby shower. The only girl friend that I had was Jasmine. Who knows if my mom would come?

"It would only be you and me, so this is the baby shower. Are you having fun yet?" I said in a sarcastic voice. Jasmine nodded, she understood why I wouldn't want one. I don't think the baby will mind. I checked my cell phone while I was waiting in line; I had one text message from Carson.

Sorry babe, I love you.

As I was checking out, Jasmine's phone rang. I'm guessing Xavier called so she wandered out of the store to talk to him and left me with this fifty year old woman who is giving me the death glare. If you're a teen, and you get pregnant, you tend to learn really fast who is against teen pregnancies. It's not like it's my fault though. I didn't go home one day and beg my dad to rape me.

I looked down at the ground avoiding her glare; I didn't realize that Carson was standing next to me until he said.

"Excuse me miss, do you have a problem?" The women glanced up at Carson and shook her head.

"No, not at all." The women replied to Carson, and then turned to me. "150 even please." I pass over the money and she hands me my bags.

"Well then can you please not look at my girlfriend like that? If you have a problem with pregnant teens then I suggest you get a new job." Carson said to her as he took the bags with one hand and wrapped his arm around me with the other. "Maddy," Carson added in.

"What?" I asked still annoyed. He can't protect me from everyone. Carson looked at me then leaned down and kissed me deeply. Then he pulled apart quickly.

"Sorry." He said smiling at me

I liked this chapter except for Jasmine going to be at the funeral. She really doesn't have the right to go. Can't wait to read on. Thanks for sharing.
