Unexpected Chapter 7A Chapter by Julie Bethmonth 2"Carson?" I nugged him softly. He didn't move. I sighed remembering that he was a heavy sleeper, so I nugged him a bit harder. When he still didn't move, I got up and grabbed my pillow. Then I walked over to the other side of the bed where Carson was sleeping. I lifted the pillow and wacked him as hard as I could in the face. This time he shot up. "What's wrong?!" Carson asked urgently in a sleepy voice. "Carson, I can't sleep." I said innocently Carson laid back down and sighed. Then he rubbed his eyes and looked at the clock. It was 1:28 a.m. "Maddy, have you been awake all this time?" "Yeah." "Alright..." Carson got up and stretched. "Come on." he said as he took my hand and lead me downstairs. Carson walked into the kitchen and opened the back door. It took me a second to realize that he wanted me to go outside. I took a step back. "Carson, it's two degrees out, in late november, and it's snowing. I am not going there!" "Why not?" Carson argued "What, were those reasons I just gave you not good enough?" "Nope." "Well, were both barefoot, you're only wearing lounge pants, and i'm in a tank top and shorts." "I'm well aware of this." Carson stated as a smile creeped across his face. I knew that smile. That was his evil smile. "Carson, don't you dare." I warned as I backed away from him. He was to quick. He grabbed my hand and before I knew it, he had me in his arms as he walked out the back door. I wrapped my arms around his neck as tightly as I could. "Carson, please, please, please, do not put me down." I begged as carson laughed. "Carson, i'm dead serious. Don't do this." Carson slowly lowered me towards the ground. "Carson!" I shrieked as I was just inches away from the snow covered ground. "Maddy, you woke me up because you couldn't sleep. I'm just helping you get to sleep." "How is this going to help me get to sleep?!?! You're only helping me get cold and have a panic attack." I pleaded as Carson laughed and lifted me away from the ground. I untwisted my arms from around his neck. "I wasn't going to put you down." Carson whispered in my ear as I leaned my head on his chest. "That wasn't funny Carson." "It was a little bit. Are you tired?" he asked. Surprisingly, I was tired. I nodded my head. He leaned down, kissed me, and stood outside holding me till I fell asleep.
Carson had to get up early to go to work. I was half awake when he kissed me goodbye. The I fell back asleep. When I woke up two hours later, it was nine o'clock. I already knew what I was going to do today. I got up, took a shower, and got dressed. I was about to brush my teeth when morning sickness hit me. I hated throwing up. Whenever I throw up, I always cry. I don't know why, its always been like that. After I brushed my teeth, I went over to my mom's house. I was about to knock when she opened the door. A smile crossed her face. "Hi Madeline." My mom said as she let me in. "Hi mom." I replied. There was an awkward silence on the account of, we didn't know what to say to each other. I decided to talk first. "So, um, I'm going to be staying with Carson and Xavier, and I was wondering if I could get more clothes. They, uh, well they don't do laundry as much as they should." I muttered "Oh, yeah, you can get more clothes. Did you eat breakfast yet?" My mom asked "Um, not yet." I answered "Why?" "Well, I was glad when you called the other day. We haven't really talked about this yet. I was hoping that we could do that now, over breakfast." "Yeah, sure. What are we having?" "Chocolate chip muffins." My mom said. She knew they were my Favorite. We went into the kitchen where mom started to make the muffins. It was quiet till my mom asked, "Do Carson and Xavier know?" "Carson does, we haven't told Xavier yet." "Have you and Carson discussed what you want to do?" "I know what I want to do. I haven't aked Carson what he wants to do." I said looking down at the table. "What do you want to do?" "I want to give it up for adoption. I can't raise a baby, not at my age. I want this baby to have the life I can't give it." My mom turned around and studied my face. She could tell that I was serious. She took a deep breath and said, "I think that's the right thing to do but," I sighed. I knew mom was going to try to talk me out of this. She ignored my sigh and went on. "You need to talk to Carson about what he wants to do. You need to take into consideration even if you disagree with what he wants." My mom handed me a muffin and sat down across from me. I knew she was right. I think I was wishing that I wouldn't need to talk to Carson about this. "You're right. I'll talk to him about it tonight." I said as I picked a piece off my muffin and plopped it in my mouth. "Good girl. Now, your doctors appointment is next Tuesday morning at 9:30. You will be missing some school, but you are not taking the day off. I am going to go with you. Carson can come, but he doesn't have to." "Mom?" "Yes Maddy?" she asked as I got up and walked to her. "Thank you." I said as I hugged her. "You're welcome sweety." My mom hugged me back. We sat at the table talking until I finished my muffin. I was about to go get more clothes when my mom said, "Maddy, wait. I wanted to talk to you about that." She was quiet for a few seconds. "I want you to come home." I was speechless. I didn't think that she would want me home yet. I was a quiet for a minute then I replied, "Mom I love you, and I don't want you to take this the wrong way, but, I want too stay with Carson and Xavier. Just for now." "Okay, but if you ever want to come home, you can." "I know mom." I said as I smiled
I stayed at my mom's house till 4:30 p.m. I basically just helped her with house work and picked Hannah up from her friends house for mom. When I got back to dad's condo, I packed the clothes I had there and watched TV til Carson picked me up at quarter of seven. When we got to Carson's condo, it was a little bit past seven. We thought that Xavier would be working, but instead we found him running around the condo shirtless. "Um, Xavier what are you doing?" I questioned "I'm looking for a clean shirt." Xavier said as he picked up a shirt and smelled it. Then he threw it back on the ground and muttered "Or at least one that doesn't smell." Carson raised his eyebrows and took a good look at Xavier. He walked by Xavier and back towards me. "You took a shower, you're wearing cologne, and you're looking for clean clothes..." Carson Stated "Are you going on a date?" "Yes, Carson, yes I am." "With who?" "A girl I work with. Her name is Susan. I covered her shift a while back when she was sick." "Wait, you're not gay?! DARN IT!" I exclaimed Xavier stopped looking for a shirt and turned to me with a strange expression on his face as Carson broke out laughing. "Why would you think i'm gay?" Xavier pressed "You never had a girlfriend before. I thought that you were to afraid of coming out of the closet. Now you can't be my gay best friend because you're not gay. I hope you know you just ruined my life. I'm also taking you off the speed dial list on my phone because you're not cool anymore." I explained. Then I turned around and walked out of the room. I stopped in the hallway and listened to Xavier and Carson. "Did she seriously think I was gay?" Xavier asked "I think so." Carson replied chuckling softly. "Did you ever think I was gay?" "It might have crossed my mind once or twice." Carson said as he left Xavier standing there speechless. Carson turned the corner and saw me. "Having fun eavesdropping?" Carson asked smiling "Yep." I answered as he leaned down to kiss me. When I broke the kiss a few seconds later I asked, "Can we talk?" "Yeah." Carson said as he took my hand and lead me into his room. © 2011 Julie BethAuthor's Note
