Here to HereA Poem by polarizeI wrote this a while back to enter into a couple of contests... best of class in the county fair if anyone was wonderingIt was a clear
night with a thousand
specs of dust in the sky,
when you asked
me, How much do you love me?
Dimples dotted
my cheeks and I said, From here. You didn’t get
it then.
I loved the
feeling of your hands in mine, thin fingers
intertwined with the rough, calloused
pads of my palms.
I loved the way
you laughed at almost nothing, And the way you
walked, and talked on the
phone,
And I loved your
height, no matter how
much you hated it Too small, and not tall enough. But you were
tall enough to carry a beacon of light, and to sneak
into my arms in the still morning air.
I loved your
smile, and your hair, and your eyes, Oh, god. You’re so beautiful. Your deep brown
eyes could hold the depth of black holes and the weight of
galaxies. They were shards
of amber and gold trapped in rich orbs.
How much do you love me? was always a
stupid question until you walked
off in another direction.
How much do you love me? Eight months
without your hand in mine, and I still hear
the ghost of you mumbling in your sleep.
How much do you love me?
To here. I said to you,
thirteen months after
You didn’t get
it then either. © 2016 polarize |
