A LEAF SLIPS FROM ITS SLIM HOLD

A LEAF SLIPS FROM ITS SLIM HOLD

A Poem by Mike Keenan

A LEAF SLIPS FROM ITS SLIM HOLD

A leaf slips from its slim hold,

drifts casually through air

cradled back and forth

sauntering downward

in its death throw,

deeply coloured red

like blood that once

supported life.

We marvel at its quick course

as more victims

of first frost

stills the forest

in a white blanket,

shroud-like,

encasing Jesus

taken from the cross,

hid behind a rock.

Gee
Reminds me of a poem I write which compared my old mum to the last leaf of autumn, stubbornly holding on until her/it's time to let go and perish.
Enjoyed reading this
