Think about itA Chapter by Property of Kent
Nessa Harper sat looking out over her balcony. She was at peace, finally at peace. Then came the loud chime of the doorbell. Nessa let out an aggravated growl and made her way to the door. “Oh Vanessa Harper, how good to see you again.” “Oh David how I haven’t missed you.”, came her snide reply. “Careful talking to a police officer like that, you could get yourself in trouble.” “Cut the crap David, what do you want from me?” “How do you know I want something?” he asked then paused. Nessa slapped him hard across the face. “It has nothing to do with my abilities I just know you too well is all.” “Well as I’m sure you can recall we do have history.” “Wow, making jokes, how predictable of you.” “You know me too well Ness.” Nessa slapped him again. “Don’t you dare call me that again, you stick with Vanessa or you leave now.” “So you are willing to hear me out then?” “Well if you had the balls to come here and find me again then it must be pretty important.” “As a matter of fact it is.” He said, “And you’ll be rewarded greatly I assure you.” “I’m listening.” “Five hundred dollars in consolidation.” “I’ll think about it.” She replied. “C’mon nes- “ Nessa shot him a cold glare. “I mean Vanessa. I’m sure you could use the money I mean look at this place.” He said, addressing the abandon clock tower chamber she lived in. “I choose to live here if you must know. I prefer a life of solitude and I’m sure you can understand my reasons.” “Fair enough. Just promise me to think about it, will ya Vanessa.” “Your charm doesn’t work on me anymore David.” She said sternly. “Come back to the station and help out with a few cases. I know you have to miss it.” “You try having this curse of mine and say that you miss it.” “Just think about it Vanessa.” He replied. Vanessa nodded and showed him the way out. The second that she closed the door memories flooded back to her. She remembered her days working at the police station and her days dating David, before her powers had led her to the conclusion that he had been cheating on her. She had seen terrible murders and felt the pain of the victims. She had been strong. Stronger than any officer she had known, but she felt helpless now. As much as she wanted to deny David’s pleas, she felt called back, not to him but to the station. Something was wrong, and she was going to find out what.
