Ceasefire

A Poem by poison&kerosene
"

Hello guys, I know this is not one of my best but I have recently moved across the country alone and I need to find an outlet.

"

Perhaps you and I shall bury the hatchet

How long has it been since we have shared a laugh?

Walked alongside one another in tranquility?

We carve into each other with serrated edges

Infecting our self-worth, desecrating happiness

In the end we have nothing to show for this battle

No victories won on either side

It is just you and I and it will always be that way

So, I raise my glass to you, my dear reflection

May we call a truce and learn to live with one another

Fighting yourself and losing.
Shedding blood at shadow-boxing and wondering why.
Don't know how many times I've threatened to kill that guy, think it's a lifetime gig.

' We carve into each other with serrated edges - Infecting our self-worth, desecrating happiness - In the end.. .. '

Such a clever poem, is a marriage of mystery, philosophy, psychology plus - a stripping bare of two characters might be a hint of porn! Have to admit at the end I said,' Ouch!"

Hardest thing in the world to do is forgive yourself ... took me many years to shed the guilt ... but now I understand that although not as good as I could have been ... I'm not as bad as I thought I was.
That young jackass in the mirror has become a wizened old man and through it all I have been a poet.
Putting words on paper has always been a way to deal with whatever tormented me.

Your poem is excellent by the way.
Take care ... be safe.

"We carve into each other with serrated edges" Beautiful line and with a surprising ending. We're always at war with ourselves.

Some people seem to have a talent for pushing each other's buttons. Occasionally they grow out of it. If they don't, it's mutual misery ad infinitum.

Very true! It is even more miserable when you are your own bully. Thank you for stopping by!
i saw the lines drawn, i understand this on a very personal level...
the mirror, the reflection, turning away from myself...
feelings of unease, of guilt...they happen...while at the same time this brought me to another relationship...one that is constant war...constant passive aggressiveness...
a reflection in turmoil.

Those first three lines reminded me almost up to the dot of what I said to my exboyfriend as I was breaking up with him. In the end it doesn't matter what kind of relationship it is, if it's not working, we should try to do something about it, right? But the line "So, I raise my glass to you, my dear reflection" broke my heart even more. Thank you for this share, it's depressingly beautiful.
