A Poem by poison&kerosene

The safety of the closet sickened by the smell of him
Tangled up in the hoodies I used to wind around my waist
Because it smelled like you

in the dark I close my eyes and hold my breath
There goes the mug I bought him
Down goes the dining room table

I told myself over and over...never again.

So I met a man with a gentle touch
For years I wrapped myself up in his arms
The smell of his clothes made me feel warm

And ten years later I found myself hiding again
Locked in the bathroom clinging to the shower curtain
Your body wash nauseating me while I sit and ask no one

Why?

He looked so in love in our wedding album

I am once again just a teen hiding in my boyfriend's closet
Wondering why it is so easy for men to say I love you
Then strike you down in the next breath

parts of ex lovers we seem to never get rid of...maybe we just don't want to forget even when we say we do.
