TED Talk Marathon

TED Talk Marathon

A Poem by poison&kerosene

The chip on my shoulder irritates my flesh

Digging raw fragments of cynicism

That no amount of peroxide

Or the occasional laugh

Could alleviate

I am tired of being crestfallen

Weary of this morose existence

This story has two possible endings

I apply the gauze to my willful wound

And I journey towards blessedness

Your poem speaks to the consciousness of a bad trajectory, and the worst part is knowing the cause but the inability to change it. Here, the speaker seems to flippantly say, "yeah, I know I'm broken, but yeah I'll go on with this simple self care." We're left with the impression, the story's end isn't determined, but we don't feel good about it.

I failed to make the connection the "TED Talk Marathon," and I'm a TED Talk fan. Maybe it's the numbness we might feel with such a marathon. The long hours of speakers droning creates a numbing hum. Not sure, though about that.

Sylvia laughed quite often, but almost always it was cynical...she seemed always to be saying, "wow, my life is so perfect i could puke words to describe it"
often she did apply gauze, but to a wound that just grew deeper and never healed.
a haunting poem.
