You Were QuietA Poem by poison&kerosene
You were quiet
The first day I met you you were painfully silent And the rest of the world was much too loud. You are awkward your words are muttered and tangled and strange But I had grown tiresome Of the smooth talkers and the one liners. You hold the door open not just for me but for everyone. You don't notice it Think nothing of it But this place is full of slamming doors. I have a past The scars on my body became a road map of poor decisions death wishes and hospital visits. I built a wall Not to keep others out Rather to shut myself in Patiently and gently You pulled me out. Never once had you gazed at me with judgemental eyes. What you deem as flaws are what make you special and people may overlook your kind gestures your maladroit tendencies and warmth of your hands But I will remain captivated and appreciative of the things that make you you. You were quiet The first day I met you You were painfully silent When the rest of the world was much too loud I found solace within you
