Stranger Staring Back

Stranger Staring Back

A Poem by Emily Dickinson Jr.
"

This about seeing who you truly are. Not what eveyone else sees or your perception of yourself but the real truth. It's about accepting yourself :-) read it plz

"

Such beauty I have never seen

Huh! that's me?

 It can't have been

I've never been a sight to see

You want a picture

Really? yes! Of me?

I never guessed

I still can't see

How that face

Could really be me

I look again

My belief denied

Yet my hope is sprung

I am suprised

The gown of blues

And golds and greens

Has shown me such

Amazing things

Then its ripped

It's shown a dream

The face has cracked

It looks real mean

My dress is torn

My throat swells

My tears ....

Im afraid

This was

My greatest fear

It wasn't me

How could I think

That I was ever

On the brink

Of love and awe

beauty and more

So now I sink

Unto the floor

While she sneers

"look at her"

And then it stops

I know its me

All the beauty

and the ugliness

That I see

So I sink upon my knees

 And say

"I see."

Content to know

That both are me

Mirror image, both selves the ugly and beautiful sides make a person, define them... Through the looking glass the person we often see, the real truth behind the painted facade is not always what we expect... I really like how you've artfully described this sensation and concept, well penned indeed plus the picture looks amazing and fits well with this piece :)

(Review for Change the World Competition) Perfect 10 for flow but I admit to being a little lost with this piece. The depth of honesty and emotion though has put this in the top five with about 8 more works to review. Very nice write

Great way to wrap this piece. All the beauty and ugliness... fantastic! If only all the friends and family we keep close to be as honest with themselves, as to see both sides of the person they are... might make for a better world!

Great ending to a mysterious poem at first. I think a lot of girls/women can relate to this especially. Sometimes we have depressed moments of not being good enough, but other times we are okay with our self image- i think this topic is really relevant to society these days

You know it!! :-D
A amazing tale in the poem. Hard to look in the mirror. Sometime we do not like what we see. I like the thoughts and the direction of the poem. A very strong ending to a excellent poem.

This is great. I love the parallels in the poem between the ugly inside of us all and the beauty. It's easy to wear interchangeable masks in our society, and this poem reflects that.
Great imagery and heartfelt. Keep it up :)

thanx so much!! im glad you enjoyed it and it truly came from a special place in me.
Excellent poem. It's relatable to many, and unpredictable. It expresses both happiness and pain in the classic example of a person staring themselves in the mirror. Good jobb.

A very well written realistic poem. Whether we choose to admit it or not the majority of us feel this way. Strangers within, struggling with beauty vs ugliness, finding harmonious ways to overcome insecurities. Great job, Emily.
