I'm a history nerd, so seeing the words "Black Death" drew me right in. I liked this one quite a bit, my favorite piece of yours that I've read so far. I absolutely love this line:
""Sinners will fall'
Is the message sent
That is
Until each pope falls"
Keep up the good work :)

Congratulations on your first place win in the "death" contest. The Black Plague was indeed a dark era in history, and you have been able to convey how horrific it was! I am trying to understand how a victim could be a "pope", but must conclude the phrase is meant as a reference to those who considered themselves above the law, and too holy to fall victim to the disease.

Then it refers to how the plague killed popes as well where the citizens then realize this plague couldn't be from god if it was killing holy men " this can't be what god has meant". I hope that cleared it up for you :-). I glad you enjoyed my poem. And thank you for selecting me as the winner to the contest I appreciate it :)

It's amazing to me just how many can die of a tragic illness and just become one of those many, on the paper which doesn't exist, to keep track of its toll. This piece, to me, read as though an outsider in a town was indeed keeping a journal. Just enough of one entry to convey the tragedy that decended ... the fear spreading ... the gracefull sweeping hand by The Angel Of Death.. as his wings spread this mist of sickness to many.
