The train

The train

A Poem by Helena
"

a poem that echoes where I feel we are at this dangerous point in time ...

"

The train

as this train speeds on, suddenly I wonder

where am I going, which station?

but now I can’t remember anything -

and my ticket gives no clue

and carriage signs are blank

and no-one here will answer me…

their eyes go vague when I ask

where is this train going?

and they look away, so I ask again

where are we going?

where are you going?

still no reply, so I walk through the train,

noting that passengers seem entranced,

or absent, dozing, reading or consulting phones,

computers and all that,

so I walk on

looking for a member of train staff, to ask

what is the destination of this train?

but find no-one

until I reach a carriage with no seats,

where people are tumbled together;

some seem unconscious or asleep on the ground, but a few

battle with one of the doors, unable to open it

I ask them and they say,

we have to escape this train,

will you help us?

as they struggle with that door, so solid,

and the glass they cannot break,

and they tell me, they pull the emergency cord

but nothing happens. I leave them,

drawn on to find some answer.

at the front end of the train, next to the engine, there’s another door

that more are trying to open, without success …

and again I try to remember

why did I board this train?

but no, I can’t, and I look again at my ticket,

but all it carries is a carriage and seat number, nothing more,

no starting point, no destination…

I try to see through the windows

but can make nothing out, except that we are going faster, faster…

as I ask myself again: who drives this train?

what is its destination?

While reading your poem, I felt it like dreamy state.. A philosophical gem. Good work 👍
