The Lies You Told Me

The Lies You Told Me

A Poem by KatieJean

Was there ever a time when your mind was not on her?
Or was she that thought that you held in the back of your mind
Like a piece of gum that you stuck to a table
Always there but only you knew it
Was she on your mind even when we slow danced the night we first met
When you dared looked into my eyes and told me the biggest lie
The lie that I was the one, the one you’d want to be with from now till forever
I should have known that you were waiting
Waiting for me to pack my bags and leave
Waiting for me to see that you weren’t in this like I was
So you could take her and hold her in your arms
Like you were supposed to do for me
But why was I the only person the cared about US
If you wanted her why did you drag me into this cycle of hurt
Leaving me with my heart broken and yours loved and untouched
I was a sucker to even think for one second that you and your smooth words
Was anything but real
My eyes were so clouded with lust that I couldn’t see the past the lie you played so well
I couldn’t see how you played me
Played me like a fiddle and left right during my encore
