Two Choices

Written 1/7/13.

I have two choices
To never feel his arms around me again
Or to spend every moment I can in them

I have two choices
To never feel the caress of his lips again
Or feel every smooth slick of that facial connection

I have two choices
To spend moments with him painfully wishing to be closer
To spend those moments being closer

One day he will leave me
He'll move to a new chapter in his life
One that cannot include me beyond friendship
So I have two choices to make

Happiness before heartbreak
Or depression before heartbreak

The answer seems so obvious
When presented in these terms

But when everyone thinks the setup is a mistake
The choice is clearly filled with guilt

In the end
No matter the outcome
We love Demi Lovato
She'll Give Your Heart a Break

She'll be my best friend
And maybe his

Two choices
Are rarely so difficult to make
....while being no challenge at all

Author's Note

Yes, this reveals something about me if you haven't figured it out already. But things have currently reached a halting point. He has a decision to make and so do I. Please don't judge me. I wasn't feeling particularly good when originally writing this poem or when writing this tidbit.

I had theories of why things are playing out in his head as they are, and a recent Facebook status of his let me understand everything. We're only friends, and that's all we'll be able to be because of two completely different lifestyle choices. It's going to hurt for a while, and he'll always be in a special place for me, but the course of action now is less painful than I expected (assuming nothing changes).

Go for happiness, every time. Hell, it's worth it, and maybe it'll last a little while longer than expected. Although that fear of loss once you have something...that's the hard part.

I wish it was just a fear of loss. The unfortunate nature of my circumstance is that there is a deadline to the time we have together because of the next step in his life (4th stanza). But I will go for happiness if he gives me the chance to.
