Treasured Memory.

Treasured Memory.

A Poem by poeticpiers

a tale in triplets

"

Treasured memory.

A summer holiday romance.

A brief but blissful love affair.

Brought to and end by circumstance.

For summer holidays must end.

We separate reluctantly.

We have no choice for we depend.

On working hard to earn our crust.

We must return from whence we came.

Our dreams will crumble into dust.

Although we swore to keep in touch.

Some how it seems we never do.

The effort seems to be too much.

Because we live so far apart.

But we retain the memories.

Of our summertime sweetheart.

The brief and blissful love affair.

Which had to end so suddenly.

Although we found it hard to bear.

We knew it never stood a chance.

It simply was not meant to be.

Fate calls the tune and we must dance.

I wonder if she feels the same.

Or has she just forgotten me.

All part and parcel of life’s game.

The only thing that I regret.

It could have been so different.

If fate decreed that we had met.

Not on a summer holiday.

But somewhere.Where we could pursue.

Our love affair in the normal way.

I sometimes think we might have wed.

Together raised a family.

But circumstances limited.

The choices which we had to make

and we were forced to separate.

Each had a different road to take.

And so we went our different ways

I wonder where she is today.

I will remember her always.

I hope she sometimes thinks of me.

As fondly as I think of her.

A distant cherished memory.
