Brief re-union

Brief re-union

Brief reunion.

I met a boyhood friend today.

By merest chance I have to say.

A boy with whom I used to play.

When we were young and innocent.

Attired as a city gent.

He seemed supremely confident.

But he was somehow different.

Though I suspect he felt the same.

And held the passing years to blame.

All part and parcel of life’s game.

There is no way we can reclaim.

The closeness which as boys we knew.

Although it’s sad it is still true.

That I have changed and so have you
