Things are different today.

Things are different today.

A Poem by poeticpiers

tetrameter sonnet variant

"

Things are different today.

In days of old. So I am told.

When slaves were being bought and sold

Around the world quite openly.

A shameful piece of history.

Torn from their homes against their will

and sold as slaves to colonies.

In distant lands across the seas.

Where  their offspring are living still.

Though things are different today.

They’re free to go but choose to stay.

There’s nothing now to go back for.

They’ve learnt to live a different way.

That what their forebears did before

They were enslaved in days of yore.

You're still writing such wonderful pieces, always knocking at people's minds, saying 'read me, read me, learn if you like' In this poem you''ve brought readers up to date with history. and with a bulk of fine metre. Many thanks for sharing. :)
