Come into the garden MaudA Poem by poeticpiersA glosaCome into the garden Maud. A tribute Glosa Come into the garden Maud The black bat night has flown Come into the garden Maude I am here at the gate alone And the woodbine spices are wafted abroad and the musk of the rose is blown Alfred Lord Tennyson 1809 -1892 Come into the garden Maud. The black bat night has flown. Come into the garden Maud. My love for you has quickly grown. But love can be a two edged sword. I’d like to claim you for my own. For the black bat night has flown And now I see with clarity What hitherto I had not known. You are the perfect mate for me. I do not wish to live alone. I prithee end my misery. Come into the garden Maude. Where there is none to overhear. Its early yet to be abroad. It would be you and I my dear. So none but you will hear my word. But will hear it soft but clear. I am here at the gate alone Though I can feel your presence near. The foliage is overgrown. Which makes it difficult to see. I sit upon a bench of stone. Whilst I am waiting patiently. And the musk of the rose is blown. convincing me without a word. Of what the garden’s always known. That I am meant to marry Maude This is the reason I was born. We can’t defy our destiny.
