Seize the day!A Poem by Poeticpiersa rantSeize the day. In the dark canyons in between. Skyscrapers reaching to the clouds. Where the sun’s very rarely scene. The sidewalks packed with passing crowds. A sight that’s all too often seen A vagrant begging for loose change. Though not some drunken old has been. His whole life style. His firm cut back and let him go. He’s unemployed. He used to be on the fast track. But recession has destroyed. So many firms which could not cope With the changing circumstance. He is depressed and has no hope of finding work. There’s little chance. The bank has repossessed his home. Because he could no longer pay His mortgage without an income. So now he lives from day to day. Forced to survive as best he can. Dependent on the charity Extended by his fellow man. Just another casualty. Though some still live in luxury. Enjoying their ill gotten gains. It seems a large minority. Of little men must bear the pain. They suffer loss of dignity. Although they try they cannot find work to end their poverty. They are the flotsam left behind. Cast adrift when firms downsize. Rewarded for their loyalty. By accountants who apprise Everything eventually. Regardless of the consequence. In terms of firms efficiency. Because they lack the confidence To recognise that there must be. Some boost to the economy. They choose to take a short term view. Which helps to slow recovery Because all that accountants do. Is count the profits firms can make. Whether times are good or bad. Because they are afraid to take a chance. I must confess I find it sad. They are prepared to cast aside. The working men their firms employed. As long as they are satisfied. They make no effort to avoid. The pain they cause to working men. This is a sick society. I sometimes wonder if and when. We will regain humanity. Re introduce equality. Somehow the dream has gone astray. Things aren’t the way that they should be. In the This our opportunity. To change the way that things are done. To change the system radically. Of benefit to everyone. Except of course the favoured few. Who grow rich at our expense. The time for change is overdue. Although the task will be immense. It must be done and urgently. A different form of government On which the people can rely. The kind the founding fathers meant. When they declared self evident. The right to pursue happiness For every single resident. Why should we settle now for less?
