Drifting and dreamingA Poem by Poeticpiersterse verseDrifting and dreaming. Elderly tabby Dozing in the warm sunshine With both ears twitching. Small birds know better Than to disturb her dreams They sense false pretence. Tabby cats eat birds Alerted by fluttering wings. Strike swifter than thought She is just posing Pretending to be dozing Waiting for her chance. To pounce on her prey. Fly little birds fly away. Leave her far behind. Elderly lazy cat She is far too old to hunt. Although she still dreams On the window sill Lying in the warm sunshine. Pretending to doze. © 2012 Poeticpiers |
